What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?
In contrast to older keys, modern car keys have chips in them that are unique to each vehicle. This stops thieves from taking the key and then turning on the car.

Transponder Codes
When a transponder gets interrogated, it sends an encoded signal that is accompanied by a four-digit code. The signal is referred to as an SQUAWK code and forms the basis of identification of aircraft on radar screens. It also serves to send an exact message to air traffic control in the event of an emergency or to alert air traffic controllers to changes in weather conditions. Squawk codes can be used to communicate with ATC when the pilot is unable speak on the radio. They are crucial to ensure safe flying.
Each aircraft has a transponder which responds to radar queries by displaying an identifier. This allows ATC to identify the aircraft on a radar screen that is busy. Transponders can be set to respond in various ways when interrogated. Mode A transmits only the code, whereas mode C also includes altitude information. Mode S transponders send more specific information, including callsigns and position. This can be useful when flying in crowded airspace.
A common sight is a small, beige box that is located under the pilot's seat in most aircraft. Then, the whole VIN is translated back into its original form by multiplying the weight of each digit by 11. If the result is the same as the check number then the VIN will be valid.
